YOUTH MINISTRY
This page will inform you about the work of the Young Adult Volunteer Program as well as, more specifically, introduce you to our youth program here at the church, (where you will get to meet and learn more about our precious young people as well as learn about our hopes for the future). Thanks for your support of youth ministry in Watsonville!
** It is in the intimacy of real relationship, where one is willing to give much of oneself for a long and consistent period of time, that we discover LIFE & TRUST.**
Youth Ministry at our church is a little different than some. Thanks to the dedication of one of our pastors a few years ago, Watsonville UPC was designated as a service site within our denomination and became part of the Young Adult Volunteer Program, directed by our denominational center in Louisville, KY.
Therefore, for the past two years, youth ministry at Watsonville UPC has been primarily coordinated by the work of youth interns or volunteers within the PC(USA) denomination, who have dedicated themselves, for one year’s time, to values of simplicity and faith and took on the role of youth and/or children’s ministries coordinators within the church. The guiding idea behind the internship was that, placing YAVs (Young Adult Volunteers) within the local church in this way and giving them the chance to direct the Children and Youth programs would give them the opportunity to explore their sense of call to discern if ministry might be an option for their life-work in the future. This program has brought forth both pros and cons for our church and placed our youth in a very unique situation. Because the program is only for a year, we constantly face transitional concerns and are working to grant our program and youth a greater sense of consistency. If you are a youth volunteer in the area and interested in helping us to achieve this hoped for consistency, please contact the church office at (831) 724-4737). On the other hand, the youth have been able to meet and work with young people, closer to their age, who have dedicated themselves to the life of the church. Even though this rendezvous is only for a year, it holds incredible promise: building beautiful, transformative relationships for both the youth and/or children as well as for the interns themselves.
